Hittil
er alle (i hvert fall de fleste...) enige om saken, Men.... Hvert
må ikke glmme å nevne at min stil er Salsa New York Style On 2
;)
så god, her kommer SALSA
Sol & Salsa- hilsener, Reyza :)
A RESUME
OF THE MOST FAMOUS STYLES OF
SALSA! (By Reyza & Karina)
Salsa is a commercial name that covers dozens of music and dance styles.
If we think of which instruments of the music we enphazise (break on), we can separate Salsa in 3 big groups:
Salsa On2, Salsa On1 and Cuban
Casino.
On 2: We emphasize (break on) the
second beat of the music (the upbeat), moving mostly in line and using solo steps as well.
We dance in harmony with the Congas (drums of Salsa), and the Clave.
These are known as the most important instruments of Salsa.
The following Salsa/ Mambo styles break On2:
New York Style On2 (Eddie Torres Style or Night Club Style), Classic
Mambo, Ballroom Mambo, Cuban Son, and Puerto Rican style (which can be danced
On2 or On1 or On3).
The most famous of these 4 is the Eddie Torres Style. He is the king
of this dance and has created it in the late 70's. His dance is also
called "Night Club Style", because the dance is very compact,
using a few space on the dance floor. It's a dance rich in elements
and smooth at the same time. It's considered 'The Evolution of Salsa'.
It can also be danced in a ring (Jamboree), where we change partners
while dancing. We do double and triple turns, and even faster spinnings
for the advanced dancers. To create this ecletic and breathtaking style, Eddie Torres blend beautifully dances such as Cuban Son, Classic Mambo, Lindy Hop, Jazz, and aslo a little ballet, a little tap, a little modern, and came out with his own style. Most of the salsa dancing On1 known today got a lot of influence from Eddie Torres style On2. He is known as the teacher of the teachers. Click here to read more about Eddie.
On 1: We emphasize (break on) the
first beat of the music (the heartbeat/ downbeat), using solo steps as well.
The following Salsa/ Mambo styles break On1:
Los Angeles Style, Puerto rican Style On1, European Style, London
Style, Israeli Style, Colombian Style, Cuban Style, etc. Ecxept in
the 2 last ones, we move in line, we do double and triple turns, and
even faster spinnings for the advanced dancers.
Cuban Casino: We emphasize (break
on) the first or third beat of the music (the heartbeat), mostly moving around each
other while doing the turn patterns. The strongest influence is afro-cuban.
It can also be danced in a ring (Rueda Casino), where all couples
are doing the same steps, and we change partners while dancing.

Salsa Stories
WELCOME
to SALSA STORIES!
An MHN Virtual Tour
It's
been said that "salsa" is the music of Puerto Rico; others talk of
its roots in African rhythms, Spanish lyrics, Cuban street bands,
Caribbean song and dance styles and Latin American jazz. This tour
introduces a "Nuyorican" experience: stories about salsa from Puerto
Rican and other Spanish Caribbean communities in New York City. Much
of our information comes from Wilson Valentin and Frances Aparicio,
salsa scholars from New York and Puerto Rico, respectively, and conversations
shared with us by salsa musicians and researchers.
Happy
dancing!
